Now highly converted, this ecoregion was once constituted by the strip of grasslands of the coastal plain of the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. The ecoregion starts in coastal Mississippi (just a very small area west of Gulfport) and extends east through coastal Louisiana, along the coastal plain of Texas, and extends slightly into coastal Tamaulipas of Mexico. This ecoregion includes the large urban area of Houston.<\/p>\n
